Luis Fernando Saura Martínez was born in Dolores (Alicante) on 12th August 1939. Luis Fernando Saura began his professional career as a lawyer in 1976, after receiving a degree in Law at the University of Murcia, few years after he got his PhD in the same University. In 1986 he won a post as permanent lecturer of Civil Law at the University of Alicante, and he ended his academic career at the University Miguel Hernández in Elche.
His academic career was completed with his participation in the Administration of Justice, since 1992 as acting judge in the Audiencia Provincial of Alicante (County Court). In 1995 he was appointed permanent member of the 4th Section of the before mentioned Court.
Throughout his academic career, he combined teaching and university research with his work as a teacher in the Escuela de Práctica Jurídica de Alicante (School of Legal Practice of Alicante). He also worked as a lawyer in the Bar Associations of Madrid, Valencia, Alicante, Alcoy, Elche and Orihuela.
Likewise, he was adviser of the Consejo Jurídico Consultivo of the Region of Valencia until the 2nd September 1998, when he was appointed Síndic de Greuges at a plenary meeting in the Valencian Parliament.
During his term of office in this Institution, he was appointed member of the Board of Directors of the European Institute of Ombudsman.
On the 26th of October 2000, while he was Síndic de Greuges, Luis Fernando Saura died unexpectedly. He bequeathed several highly regarded projects which he could not conclude and a life devoted to Law and University. At the moment of his death he was married and was father of three daughters.
During his term of office, Emilia Caballero Álvarez and Luis Figueiras Dacal were designated First and Second Assistant respectively.
We want to pay him a sincere tribute and remember him as a noble person committed to his students and his work in the defence of citizens.
