What is the Síndic?

This is the name of the Ombudsman in the Region of Valencia. This Institution was created and regulated in the Ley 11/1988 de la Generalitat Valenciana, de 26 de diciembre, del Síndic de Greuges.

The Síndic de Greuges of the Region of Valencia is the High Commissioner of the Corts Valencianes (Valencian Parliament) to defend the fundamental rights and public freedoms recognised in Título I of the Spanish Constitution and in the Statute of Autonomy of the Region of Valencia.

The Síndic the Greuges (ombudsman) must be elected by at least two-thirds of the Members who form the Plenary of the Valencian Parliament, for a period of five years, and the existent possibility of re-election. Our fundamental task is to guarantee observance and respect for people’s individual rights and liberties by the public authorities of the Autonomous Region of Valencia (Consellerias, Diputaciones, Town Councils, or other public bodies of any of these administrations).

The Síndic de Greuges (Ombudsman) is completely independent in the performance of his/her duties and is not subject to instructions or any orders that come from other Institutions of the Generalitat. We act with objectivity, impartiality and independence in the performance. The Síndic renders public and free service to the Valencian citizens.
